Tuesdays to Saturdays: 7.30pm – Saturday and Sunday Matinees: 3.30pm + 2 extra Matinees on Thursday 13 June and Thursday 20 June: 3.30pm.

In this cartoon-strip comedy philosophy and politics meet show-stopping song and dance! A new play by award-winning playwright William Lyons, inspired by Aristophanes.

Strepsiades lives in Greece. He has debt. A lot of debt. And that’s because his son, Phiddy, has a penchant for betting and isn’t so keen on working. At a loss, Streps has an idea: Phiddy can go to Socrates’ Academy and learn how to talk himself out of trouble! Job done! What could possibly go wrong?

A bawdy, slapstick, vital exploration of what happens when ethics aren’t part of the equation in a world where money makes the rules.

‘Forget the hemlock. Socrates is alive and well and coming to a cloud near you…. Five Stars and Cloud Nine!’ Gyles Brandreth

This world premiere by award-winning playwright William Lyons is brought to the stage by a team of young, emerging Greek-Cypriot and Greek theatre makers in collaboration with other international artists. At a time when Greece and Cyprus are coming under unrelenting attack on all fronts, this production acts as an active dialogue between the ancient heritage of the Hellenistic world and the current state of affairs in Europe.

Tickets here. £18/£15

Development History: The play was workshopped with four actors over two days at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in January 2012 with the aim of exploring the stylistic language demanded by the text. The cartoon strip style as well as the identity of the Chorus as buskers emerged out of this R&D period, as well as a new draft of the play.

A second phase of development arose out of Anne Cattaneo, Dramaturg of the Lincoln Center and one of the most influential figures in the New York new writing scene, choosing the piece as a comedy play for exploration in the Lincoln Center Directors Lab in which Melina Theocharidou participated in July 2012. Melina worked with three actors on the opening scene of the play, which she presented on the Mitzi stage of Lincoln Center in front of an audience of 70 directors from around the globe.

The Meddlers Theatre Company: The Meddlers Theatre Company is dedicated to staging writing from across Europe that probes as well as entertains, that meddles with established attitudes towards the status quo, that makes sure that as a society we keep questioning the ways in which we choose to lead our lives.

Artistic Director/Producer: Melina Theocharidou – Writer/Producer: William Lyons

Jermyn Street Theatre: Jermyn Street Theatre aims to provide talented new actors, directors and writers with the opportunity to be recognised and given a platform in the best West End Studio Theatre. Producers and artists are encouraged into making bold and exciting choices in how they produce and deliver their work. Jermyn Street Theatre was selected by The Stage as Fringe Theatre of the Year 2012.

Does the heart beat differently in times of crisis? The untold story of the Greek unrest

“I’ve been covering the crisis for the BBC in Greece since it erupted in 2010: the riots, the strikes, the fall of a government and the rise of the violent extreme right. Greece has transformed into a story of heartbreaking poverty, unemployment and rising suicide rates. But there is an element of the story that remains untold: what happens to love in the time of crisis? Does the heart beat differently when the world around us starts to fall apart?” Theopi Skarlatos

This film tells that story. www.facebook.com/Loveinthetimeofcrisis

The Team: Director Theopi Skarlatos Cameraman/Producer Kostas Kallergis Co-producer Pallavi Sekhri,

It will feature the stories of young lovers, elderly couples, women choosing to walk unconventional paths and men forced to renegotiate their traditional roles in society. Perhaps times of crisis change women’s experience of love. Perhaps love seeks refuge in the unlikeliest of places. Perhaps love is even greater in the face of loss and hardship. On the streets of Athens there is a famous graffiti: “Love or Nothing” – this film aims to tell the story of what happens to a society when that becomes, literally, the only choice.

International writers join up with their British counterparts to bring their experiences to the Royal Court. What is life really like for those living in today’s austerity. Daily dispatches from Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain will invade the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs.

“With unemployment reaching almost 30% in Greece, soup kitchens springing up and immigrants being physically assaulted by Neo-Nazis on a regular basis it seems like the right time to put the lives of those affected by the eurozone crisis centre-stage at the Royal Court.
“After the huge success of Meet You @ Reload in January and our LSE Business Idea Development Workshop in March, we decided to combine the two and come up with something new! We are proud to announce our next Meet You @ Reload event on May the 25th.

The event is in just over a week and we only have room for 80 people, so make your move fast. Get your tickets ASAP!!

Meet You @ Reload aims to enhance the connection between our Reloaders (you) and experienced entrepreneurs, but also that of our Reloaders amongst themselves.

Speakers:

For the first part of our event, we have invited 3 very inspiring entrepreneurs (both experienced and start-up). Our speakers will share their knowledge and experience on how they started a business, what has made them successful and what are the difficulties they encountered along the way.

Most importantly however, you will have the opportunity to meet them in person, ask for their advice and challenge their opinions. We believe that in this way we can create a thought-provoking environment which will be stimulating to all our Reloaders.

Our speakers will be:

- Nikos Nyfoudis from The Life Goddess

- George Spanoudakis from Pinnatta

- 3rd Speaker TBC

(for more information on who they will be, visit our Eventbrite page).

Reloader Presentations:

We want to make this event a lively and interactive experience so we are asking those amongst you who have something to share to make a step forward.

If you have an idea or on-going project that you would like to discuss, brainstorm or develop further with the help of a small group of Reloaders, we would like to ask you to give us some information about it beforehand:

Reply to this email and let us know a bit more about your idea:

1. What is your idea?

Where have you identified a problem which you can solve, a gap which you can fill? To put it in dramatic terms, what “keeps you awake at night” or, in plain English, what is the major question that you want to advance further?

2. Why now? (optional)

Tell us What has changed recently that makes this question interesting, challenging, or – simply put – worth asking now?

3. What do we need to know? (optional)

What would someone who is not familiar with the particulars of your context need to know to be able to provide useful input to your question?

There will be room for a handful of ideas to discuss, so if you have a burning desire to air your question this is the time to share it with us!

On our side we promise to provide a quick check on the idea and to offer some guidance on how to shape it so that the discussion is more productive for you. On the day of the event we will also facilitate the small group discussions using a format developed by Professor Yiorgos Mylonadis at London Business School.

Buy your tickets here! Price: £7.

*** A kind reminder that only ONE ticket is needed per person.***

It’s Parikiaki’s 30th anniversary and they are celebrating big! The one and only Elena Paparizou live at the Cyprus Wine Festival & Business Exhibition at Alexandra Palace!

It’s the one, it’s your number one! Don’t miss the biggest show of the year!

Helena Paparizou was born and raised in Gutenberg, Sweden by Greek parents who were immigrants. Her artistic restlessness was not to be kept secret for a long period of time and since she was just a young girl she liked singing, dancing and acting. Her interest was so great that she was studying music along with school lessons.

At the age of seventeen, together with her childhood friend Nikos Panagiotidis they form Antique. They sign contract with the new-founded Bonnier and record their first single “Opa Opa” which was a smash hit (went gold and stayed many weeks in the no 1 of the singles charts). This was just the beginning for a sparkling career that continued with the release of their first album later; in 2001, they participated in Eurovision song contest and with a very impressive performance they got the third place with the song “I would die for you”. This success went on and on with platinum albums, the European Antique tour and their collaboration with great Greek and foreign artists.

However, in 2004 the Antique split and Helena continues on her own her trip in the land of music as a part of Sony BMG. In December 2003 her first solo single “Anapantites kliseis” was released; the song was written especially for her by Christos Dantis was a smash hit and remained in the first place of the airplay and sales charts.

For 2003-4 Helena performs with Antonis Remos in Peiraios Studio. In spring 2004 her first personal album was released titled “Proteraiotita” from which the songs “Antitheseis”, “Anamniseis”, “Katse kala” and “Sti kardia mou thlipsi” are great hits as well. The album went double platinum.

For winter 2004-5 Helena sings with Sakis Rouvas and George Mazonakis in Fever.

But the best were yet to come! On May 21st 2005, Helena Paparizou represented Greece for the second time in the Eurovision song contest and took the first place with the song “My number one”. The single went platinum in Greece and Sweden. Her new single “Mambo!”, was released in November 2005 went platinum and stayed for ten weeks in the top of charts.

The new album by Helena Paparizou is double and was released in mid April 2006. The title “Yparhei logos” and went platinum as well. In autumn of the same year Helena decides to spread her wings to the globe, by releasing her first international album titled “The game of love”. At the same time, she starts appearances in “Iera Odo” with pashalis Terzis and Nino.

At the beginning of 2007, the album “The game of love” goes platinum while Helena Paparizou participates in the soundtrack of the very successful TV series for MEGA channel “Mazi sou”, with two excellent songs signed by Giannis Christodoulopoulos and Eleana Vrahali.

In spring of the same year the platinum album “Yparhei logos” is released again containing 5 more songs, among those “Mi feugeis” which is already a great radio hit. In October 2007, the soundtrack for the movie “To fili tis Zois” is released where Helena Paparizou sings the homonymous song. The song becomes radio favorite of the Greek radios at once.

Spring of the same year the already platinum album ‘Yparhei logos” is released in a new edition which includes 5 more songs, among those the radio hit “Mi fevgeis”. In October, 2007 the OST “To fili tis zois” is released in which Helena sings the eponymous song; the song hits the top of the airplay charts for two months.

After being absent for nearly a year, in June 2008, Helena makes a powerful comeback with her new album “Vrisko to logo na zo” and her first big tour in Greece, with 30 gigs and appearing in front of 20.000 people. Her new album goes platinum within two months and once more singles such as “Porta gia ton ourano”, “I kardia sou petra”, “Eisai I foni”, “Pyrotehnimata” hit the airplay charts.

In November 2008, she once more shares the stage with Pashalis Terzis and in December the special edition of the “Vrisko to logo na zo-The deluxe edition” is released, which apart from the eponymous album, also includes a DVD with her live show in Melina Merkouri Theatre, backstage footage and one poster for her fans.

In May 2009, she is the leading act in Thalassa People’s stage, which is transformed in order to host her show, a place that soon becomes Athens’ nightlife hot spot. Concurrently, she announces her collaboration with IVI for which she sings the song “Tha ‘mai allios” in the commercial spot; and as usual, the song hits #1 on the airplay and sales charts.

In April 2010, after being absent for 2 years, she’s back with the album “Gyro ap’ to oneiro” while she works on her tour in Greece with the band Onirama, which had more than 20 city-destinations.

In May 2011, having a successful carrier 8 years now, she released her triple Best Of album, “Greatest hits & more”, which includes 2 new songs. One of them is “Baby it’s over” which stayed in the first places of the radio charts for about 8 months breaking every record.

Following the Νο.1 hit “Baby it’s over”, Helena returned with the powerful, hi-energy single “Mr. Perfect” in November 2011, which will be included in her next album.
