Lolek
Sunday, 4 March 2012; doors open 7:30pm.
Lolek is one of the most important singers/songwriters in contemporary alternative and independent Greek scene. For his first appearance in London on Sunday 4th of March, he will perform a special acoustic set at Mythopolis, with songs from his two albums entitled “Alone” and “Ahinos”, as well as covers of his favorite songs.
Lolek started taking accordion lessons at the age of 12, and afterwards took up guitar and drums. During the period 1999-2007, he was a member of the groups: Mafia Maggots, Touched, and Bolek & Lolek, where he wrote music and played the drums. When Bolek migrated, Lolek decided to pursue a solo career. His first album “Alone”, was released in 2009 by Inner Ear Records, receiving excellent reviews. In the same year, he set to music the poem “Candles” by C.P. Cavafy (Odos Panos Publications). On May 2011, he released his second album, “Ahinos” (“Oursin”). Dark romanticism, nostalgic atmosphere, confessional lyrics that blend with his deep voice, folk rhythms, dynamic ballads and electric songs, are elements that compose the character of his songs. Both records were included in the top Greek albums for the years 2009 and 2011. Lolek has also written music for theater, such as:
• “Time Interval” (Play based on poems by Kiki Dimoula, Karolos Koun Art Theater , 10/2009, directed by Maria Xanthopoulidou)
• “Pet City” (Semio Theater, 5/2010, directed by Maria Xanthopoulidou)
He has collaborated with Matt Elliott, on a series of performances at the historical Half Note Jazz Club in Athens, he was the opening act at Marianne Faithfull’s concert at the Ancient Stadium of Rhodes, and he also performed at the Athens Concert Hall and in various festivals and venues all over Greece.
